About Us

In 2001, having just married and ready for an adventure, we decided it was time for our 'tree change'.  Greg went searching for our 'dream' rural location where we could escape the hustle and bustle of city life ... both having being totally caught up in the corporate world - Greg in the motor industry and Kathy in the rag trade.  We searched for a location that offered the slower pace of country life whilst still being within 'co-eee' of Sydney.  Picton was just perfect!

After much seaching Greg took Kathy for a drive one Saturday - he insisted she keep her eyes closed as they drove up the driveway to the top of the property.  Once Greg had swung the car around to face the view she opened her eyes and knew it would be a perfect location for a B & B ... no-one had the right to keep something so beautiful to themselves!
From that moment the concept of Dreamcatcher Lodge was born and the next two years were spent designing the "dream" home, searching for the right builder and wading through the quagmire of officialdom.  The Leighton Green Cypress Pines forming the windbreak around the building block steered us towards the style of a Canadian Log Home with a great room as the central spine and our quarters and our guest accommodation to either side as separate wings... all built to take the best advantage of the magnificent view.  We chose Western Red Cedar to blend with the landscape and because it is termite resistant.
We also decided to build a small cottage to offer an alternative form of self-contained accommodation.  Greg built Blue Wren Cottage with help from family and friends ... his first foray into working with timber which has now become a real love.

We had planned to take up residence and begin preparing to establish Dreamcatcher Lodge B & B towards the end of 2003 but fate intervened and three years later (after a working contract in NZ and a battle with cancer) we finally took up residence in our 'dream' home.
We are both proudly Australian born and share a love of good food and wine, entertaining, travel, sailing and rugby.  We also have individual interests - Greg's are motor racing, designing and building cars and a new found love for wood working.  Kathy's are crafts of all types - she crafted the hand-basins and ceramics in the Blue Wren Cottage bathrooms and is currently leadlighting the cupboards in the Great Room.  We have five adult children and two teenage grandchildren between us.

As regular travellers, we enjoy staying in bed and breakfasts near and far and have had some wonderful experiences that we are hoping to reproduce for our guests at Dreamcatcher Lodge.  We welcome all as friends and enjoy nothing more than a chat at the kitchen bench over freshly made scones, local jam and fresh local cream.  We are passionate about the local produce and ensure our menus reflect the freshness and unique taste of seasonality.

We look forward to welcoming you to our home and hope your stay - however long - is an enjoyable and memorable one.

NOTE: Dreamcatcher Lodge and Blue Wren Cottage are smoke free environments.
